The optional locking differential (RPO G80) enhances the traction capability of the rear axle by combining the characteristics of a limited-slip differential and the ability of the axle shafts to "lock" together when uneven traction surfaces exist. Its was introduced by GM in the newly redesigned 1973 trucks as the G86 option, an upgrade from the G80 which was a clutch type limited slip also known as Positraction. This is a completely original product, clutch type, progressive, Progressive locking allows for smooth, predictable locking.
