Now, I adore the beginning and do not find it drags at all. I love Ireland, her history, her folklore and the complicated relationship she has with Britain. Realistic for the time it’s set in but not a story I love to engage with.
Her story takes some marvellous and sometimes gripping and sometimes sad twists and turns and for one so young her burdens were many (as is so in fairy tales and stories of Myth and Legend) but she was oh so strong and brave and committed to her path and despite being sometimes insecure and emotionally out of her depth she did remarkably well.
Suspenseful. Sorcha agrees to this and spends several years in the forest hiding as she works on the shirts.

Sorcha must fend off the attacks of Richard as she works to save her brothers. In Daughter of the Forest, Ms. Marillier used the version in which the heroine has six brothers and they are all turned into swans. But the first 30 pages almost made me put it down.
