They are as original as his silky verse. You'll learn a lot as you travel through the house and there are a lot of cool historical artifacts here.NOTE: If you come up from the stairs below, there are two locked doors that make it look like the house is closed. n.queue=[];t=b.createElement(e);t.async=!0;
Nestled in the quiet Bellavista neighborhood of Chile’s capital city of Santiago, La Chascona is a splash of blue on a dull dead-end street. Neruda called his coastal chateau Isla Negra. Pablo Neruda, politician and poet, has three homes throughout Chile, but this one is most interesting because it was originally built for his mistress (later wife), Matilde Urrutia.The home was built to resemble a ship and includes multiple buildings and levels. s.parentNode.insertBefore(t,s)}(window,document,'script',
Special Admission: CLP 2,000 for students and Chileans over 60 years. Set on a sandy knoll on the edge of the ocean, Isla Negra reflects Neruda’s devotion to the deep. Neruda's home in the city, the "treehouse",  is the one thing that I really wanted to see while I was in Santiago.

Neruda collected ship figureheads, and these carved wooden women, mermaids, and sirens appear throughout the sprawling home. Fancy a good night's sleep after a tiring day? Chascona, meaning messy hair, which was named after his mistress, Matilde's, messy red hair, is absolutely beautiful with both a significant Chilean and international influence that lines every corner of his home.Despite having been partially destroyed by Pionchet's regime, many of Neruda's belongings in La Chascona were recovered and restored. Bus: At PC1108 - Parada / Plaza Caupolicán. The house is on a little side street leading off Constitución. Audio tours (available in English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish) take you through the history of the building and the collection of colored glass, shells, furniture and artwork by famous friends – sadly much more was lost when the house was ransacked during the dictatorship. Nearby is the funicular to Cerro Cristobal, so it's possible to connect a few attractions within a short walk. This house designed by the Nobel Prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda was dubbed the "Woman with the Tousled Hair" after Matilde Urrutia, the poet's third wife.
Neruda loved huge windows, like the ones in La Chascona shown here. !function(f,b,e,v,n,t,s)
Decorated with the same nautical knickknacks as the rest of the house, the bar has another distinguishing feature. Copyright © 2004–2020 Yelp Inc. Yelp, , and related marks are registered trademarks of Yelp.
